In 2018, SMFM joined forces with the Association for Maternal-Fetal Medicine Management (AMFMM) to create the SMFM Practice Management Division (PM Division) with the goal of providing both individuals and organizations the business, leadership, and administrative resources required for success at every stage of their careers or their organization’s life cycle.

Recognizing the need for regular updates on coding and billing, as well as a gap in the educational preparation of physicians and other members of the MFM team, the PM Division provides comprehensive preparation for the management and administration of operations of a high-risk obstetric practice through:

Learning and Professional Development

• Attend the in-person Coding for Maternal-Fetal Medicine course to enhance your understanding of proper billing and coding practices, or join us in the Practice Management course to learn about the ever-changing trends and best practices and grow accordingly with new end-user markets, applications, and technologies.
• Access webinars on how to lead an effective MFM practice, obtain coding tips for remote patient monitoring services, and other timely topics. Join SMFM to take advantage of discounted rates!

Resources to Support Your Day-to-Day Practice 

• Refer to coding tips and access coding white papers and template letters to payers. Accessible to SMFM members only.
• Asking a coding question: As the science and practice of maternal-fetal medicine evolve, the SMFM Coding Committee partners with payers and policymakers to ensure that parents facing high-risk pregnancies have access to appropriate care. The Coding Question and Answer section of the website will help provide guidance on your questions related to coding. Accessible to SMFM members only.
• Have an SMFM coding expert assist in resolving a payer conflict. Accessible to SMFM members only.
• The SMFM Practice Management Consulting service is designed to help MFM physicians and their organizations strategically promote excellence in operational efficiency, profitability, and patient care.
